Peer learning rounds are an evidence-based practice improvement tool
Regular participation in structured Peer Learning Rounds is an indispensably powerful tool for radiologists to maintain quality and safety through shared learning.
While many practice groups have previously undertaken peer learning rounds (formerly "M&M Rounds"), the reach and frequency of such rounds have varied. The provincial working group, with BC MQI's support, consulted for two years on existing best practices to develop guidelines and standards for adoption across BC.
Participation in peer learning rounds is an expectation for practice in BC
Since October 2021, participation in peer learning rounds has been instantiated in privilege renewals, as described in the BC MQI
Diagnostic Radiology list of qualifications:
Renewal of privileges: To be eligible to renew privileges in diagnostic radiology, the applicant should normally meet the following criteria. ...The applicant must maintain satisfactory institutionally set standards of participation in periodic scheduled peer learning rounds within the last year.
The provincial working group believes that a shared approach to continuous learning will improve patient care in keeping with the aims of the Cochrane Report (2011), Wale Review (2017), and the physician college’s DAP—and help each of us meet our own goals to deliver high quality patient care.
Peer learning rounds are an accredited CPD activity
The rich learning gained in the rounds is recognized by the Royal College, with eligibility for up to 4.5 credits for participants and up to 6.5 credits for convenors.
