British Columbia Medical Quality Initiative Committees and groups

BC MQI operates on the principle that medical quality is the shared responsibility of health authorities, government, regulatory colleges, professional associations, collaborative committees and more.

Collaborative by design, our standing committees oversee a fluid arrangement of task groups that are formed as needed, to tackle specific initiatives in medical quality.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee (SC) brings together representatives of the health authorities, Health Quality BC, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and the Ministry of Health to provide strategic direction and oversight for BC MQI. The SC is accountable to the Ministry of Health.

The SC is co-chaired by Ministry of Health Executive Director Kevin Brown, and senior medical leader, Dr. Robert Halpenny. Dr. Halpenny is also presently the chair of the Medical Services Commission and role of chair of the Interior Health Board of Directors.

Credentialing and Privileging Oversight Committee

The provincial Credentialing & Privileging Oversight Committee (CPOC) brings together representatives of the health authorities, regulatory colleges, and the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council to provide operational direction and oversight for provincial credentialing and privileging (C&P). The CPOC directs resource allocation for C&P system operations and oversees the work of related task groups.

The CPOC is co-chaired by a health authority medical leader and a representative from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
