Working across the quality spectrum
The range of activities that contribute to medical quality are located across a spectrum that encompasses both quality assurance and quality improvement. While quality assurance is measurement against an established standard, the task of quality improvement is to establish which standards are appropriate and then to work on meeting or exceeding them.
Activities under the BC MQI umbrella include
- IT projects such as the provincial practitioner credentialing and privileging system (using CACTUS software)
- regulatory aspects of medical quality
- groups of physicians and other professionals, working together to improve quality in the practice setting
